The Lt. Dan Band’s Summer USO Tour

Military newspaper Stars & Stripes has a few details about the LDB’s summer USO tour.  They’ll be playing five shows in Germany: Spangdahlem (May 8th), Hohenfels (May 9), Ansbach (May 10), Stuttgart (May 11) and Ramstein (May 14).  They also have one performance scheduled for Belgium, on May 12 in Mons.

(Thanks to those who’ve left a Guestbook entry thus far — see the prior post — as an experiment, it’s going really well!)

Sinisefans Guestbook

This isn’t really something I ever planned on adding to the site, but we’ve been receiving so many emails lately from people who wanted to express their thanks to Gary for all his work in support of our troops and veterans, I thought we might give it a try.

We’re going to experiment with a guestbook at which visitors can leave publically-viewable messages.  These can either be general ones about the site (hey, we always love hearing that you love visiting), about Gary’s work or talent, or even a message to Gary.  Maybe a birthday greeting! (It’s coming up on March 17.)

We can’t promise he will read each message, but we will make sure he knows the guestbook is there.   I can pretty much guarantee there won’t be personal responses, so it’s not a place for questions or anything that requires any kind of response.

Needless to say, the guestbook will be monitored, and anything inflammatory or inappropriate will be deleted.  It’s not a place to get into political discussions.  Gary’s work for the USO and veterans is a fair topic — the war itself is not.  Let’s also try to keep things in relatively good taste — yes, many of us think he’s very nice to look at, but let’s keep it to things you wouldn’t mind his wife and kids reading, okay? :)

Anyway, we’ll give this a try — if it seems to be of interest, I’ll add button links later on.  If you have thoughts, feel free to share them in the comments or in the guestbook itself.

Star Trek Rumors All Over

Good grief… I go away for a few days and teh Internets (which is made of a series of tubes, you know) get all crazy with rumors about casting for Star Trek XI — which may be a Starfleet Academy story or “first adventure” story — or may not. We do know that it will be directed by JJ Abrams of Lost and Alias, and the studio apparently wants Matt Damon, Adrien Brody, Gary and James McAvoy as Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty, respectively.

IGN broke the story (such as it is) here and has more here, and you can read various rehashes about it here, here, and here.

A couple of notes of caution are in order — as IGN points out, Gary has a relatively small time window to do a film during his CSI:NY hiatus, and he already has other plans for that hiatus, including a USO tour. On the other hand, Star Trek and CSI are corporate siblings, of a sort, so maybe something can be worked out. Anyway, when we hear, we’ll pass it on!

Gary Sits Down with CBN News

CBN News reporter Melissa Charbonneau recently sat down with Gary to talk about a variety of important issues. This is one of the lengthier pieces with Gary in quiet some time. The are 7 videos clips of the interview on line, so sit back and click around a bit: Gary’s CBN News Interview.

CBN News also did a nice feature about Gary and his work for disabled veterans. Here is a link to the article and video (different from the interview above): Star Power Behind Honoring Disabled Vets.

Gary’s Interview on WUSA 9

Gary talked with Andrea Roane of WUSA Channel 9 earlier today about Fisher House and the Lt. Dan Band concert Saturday at the Washington Auto Show to raise funds for that organization. He also talked briefly about OIC. Video of that interview is on-line here.

Note: Not sure how long the video will be available so check it out soon.

Video of Gary’s National Press Club Speech

From C-Span.org: Actor Gary Sinise discusses the building of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. The actor, who played a disabled soldier in “Forrest Gump,” is the National Spokesman for the project. During his National Press Club appearance, Mr. Sinise describes the campaign to raise $65 million for the memorial. Click here to view C-Span coverage of Gary’s National Press Club appearance.

Upcoming television: CBN News interview and Into the Fire Reairs

CBN News will broadcast an exclusive interview with Gary next week. We’ll post the date and time once we have it. In the meantime, click here for a short piece and video clip from today’s broadcast including a snippet of Gary’s speech earlier today.

Also, Into the Fire, the 90-minute documentary funded and presented by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, will have an encore presentation on Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. EST on The History Channel.

National Press Club on CSPAN Today

Sorry for the very late notice — it wasn’t listed when I checked yesterday — but C-SPAN’s listings now show Gary’s appearance at the National Press Club at 1:00 pm eastern today. Yes, that’s about 10 minutes from now. Again, sorry! It really wasn’t there yesterday. (These listings have not been pushed to Tribune and other guide services, as far as I can tell — TiVo listings showing “US Senate” for that time.)

The good news is that CSPAN seems to have an extensive video library on their site, so hopefully this will turn up there, or on the Press Club’s site. We’ll let you know if we find it. Again, sorry for the late notice.

Gary Supports Disabled Veterans Memorial

Gary’s upcoming National Press Club luncheon will apparently be used for announcing a $65 million initiative for a disabled veterans’ memorial. More here at the Marine Corps Times.

Also, there’s a quick mention here about Gary’s appearance at a special prom for teens suffering/recovering from kidney disease.

The Lt. Dan Band Rocks

UPDATED: More photos! Gary plus Jeff Vezain, Gina Gonzales, and Kimo Williams. Click “Read the rest…”

Good morning!

I was lucky enough to catch the Lt. Dan Band at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, California on Saturday night. What a show — this is an awfully impressive group of musicians! They play a fabulous, diverse set, covering music from five decades. (Is there anything on earth cooler than Kimo Williams? I think the answer is clearly no.)

Gary has an easy, relaxed leadership presence on stage, but everyone gets a chance to shine. The result is a fantastic evening of music and fun. So watch this space and if the LDB comes to your area, be sure and go!

Said hi to Gary after the show, and he had nothing but the nicest things to say about this site. It’s really a reflection on all the people who have helped over the years, past and present, to make it what it is. I really couldn’t do it alone. And apparently we do a pretty good job keeping on top of things — “If I want to know something about myself, I just go there.” (Mostly kidding, but still? Best. Compliment. Ever.)

Sinisefan Glenda Cain was also at the show, and unlike me, she actually takes good pictures, which she is nice enough to share with us. So we’ll meet you on the other side of Read the Rest…
