Ramsay Warton of KBMG9 interviewed Gary (back in January) when he and the Lt. Dan Band were in Hawaii to entertain the troops. Ramsay chatted with Gary while the group rehearsed for the January 31, 2009 concert at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The Lt. Dan Band also played Hickam Air Force Base the next night.
There are 2 video segments with Gary and another with co-founder of the Lt. Dan Band, Kimo Williams. Williams lived in Hawaii throughout his teens and first dabbled with the guitar while attending Leilehau High School.
President George W. Bush stands with Gary Sinise after presenting him with the 2008 Presidential Citizens Medal Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, in the Oval Office of the White House. White House photo by Chris Greenberg.
Today, President Bush will present Gary (along with twenty-two others) the Presidential Citizens Medal at the White House
The White House press release offered the following comment:
Gary Sinise is a humanitarian and a patriot. Working alongside our military and reaching out a compassionate hand to Iraqi children, he is helping a society once brutalized by a tyrant to rebuild and realize the great blessings of liberty. He has also travelled the world to show America’s gratitude to our service members. The United States honors Gary Sinise for his efforts to improve the human condition and his strong commitment to the selfless men and women who devote their lives to military service.
The Presidential Citizens Medal was established in November 13, 1969, to recognize U.S. citizens who have performed exemplary deeds of service for the nation. It is one of the highest honors the President can confer upon a civilian, second only to the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
More Photos & Video of Lt. Dan Band at the Air and Water Show
Below are a few more photos from the Lt. Dan Band performance at the Air and Water Show this past weekend in Chicago. This time around we have such a great selection of photos from Glenda (wonderful shots on a beautiful day), we can share some of Gary with other members of the band. Also, below the last photo is a fantastic video of the closing number!

(note: video edited and uploaded by Youtube user:proud2b4family - “to encourage our troops, wherever they may serve, now and in the future.”)
Thanks once again to Glenda for sharing her photos from the Air and Water Show!
Thanks to the generosity of Sinisefan Ellen C. we have a much better quality video of the Lt. Dan Band performing at Joe’s Bar on May 2nd. Ellen was seated very close to the stage and directly in front of Gary and Jeff, so it is definitely worth a look. Gary’s expressions while playing bass are priceless!
Also, Glenda has kindly provided photos of Gary from the performance that night.
Thanks again to both Ellen and Glenda for sharing their video and photographs!
On May 2nd, Gary and the Lt. Dan Band performed at Joe’s Bar in Chicago. This benefit concert was open to the public and proceeds went to the United States Vietnam Arts Program. The USVAP and Lt. Dan Band co-founder Kimo Williams (a Vietnam veteran) and his ensemble Kimotion were selected to perform at the International Hue Festival in Hue Vietnam June 1st through June 5th. Read more about Kimo’s upcoming visit to Vietnam at USVAP and more about Kimotion here.
We have photos from the Joe’s concert (and the Steppenwolf Gala) which will be posted soon. A big thank you to Glenda for those once again this year.
In the meantime, there are two videos from the concert (thanks to youtube). The first is the band performing “Baba O’Riley;” the second is primarily Jeff Vezain’s performance of “Smooth.” The audio is not the best (especially for “Smooth”), but these might be enjoyable for those who have not been to a Lt. Dan Band show - yet.
