Gary was one of the recipients of the AARP The Magazine 2008 Inspire Awards. He and fellow honorees received their awards during a private luncheon hosted by Barbara Walters at the New York Public Library on December 3, 2007. The Inspire Awards (formerly called the Impact Awards) pay tribute to 10 extraordinary people whose contributions inspire others to action through their innovative thinking, passion and perseverance.
In addition to Gary, who is honored for his fundraisng efforts on behalf of Operation Iraqi Children, this year’s honorees include Caroline Kennedy (Community Service Advocate), Gladys Knight (Champion forDiabetes Research), Barbara Morgan (Courageous Educator), Liviu Librescu (Virginia Tech Hero), Helen Thomas (Trailblazing Journalist), Cynthia Kenyon (Pioneer in Longevity Research), Ed Boyer (Founder of Air Transportation Aid),Roslyn Hill (Leader of Neighborhood Revitalization), and Pete Garcia (Affordable Housing Advocate).
The USO reports that Gary will be in Hawaii this weekend with the LDB.

Gary talked with Andrea Roane of WUSA Channel 9 earlier today about Fisher House and the Lt. Dan Band concert Saturday at the Washington Auto Show to raise funds for that organization. He also talked briefly about OIC. Video of that interview is on-line here.

On Friday, November 10th Gary and his Lt. Dan Band performed a benefit concert for Operation Iraqi Children at the Uptown Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri.

We posted last week about about Gary’s White House visit for America Supports You, complete with CNN coverage. Not everyone involved was a celebrity — far from it, in fact. We have hometown newspaper coverage about the experience of the volunteers behind Operation Ensuring Christmas and Operation Shoebox.
Gary was at the White House today, working to get the word out about America Supports You, an organization that helps ordinary citizens provide support to U.S. servicemembers.

Gary Sinise Appears on ABC Voices: a Weekly Feature on ‘This Week’
On January 22nd, Gary appeared on the “Voices” segment of ABC “This Week”. Gary talked about travelling to Iraq, founding Operation Iraqi Children and his connection and commitment to the troops.This Week transcript and link to video
American Film Renaissance - “An Afternoon With Gary Sinise”
There are both video and audio clips to enjoy from Gary’s appearance at the American Film Renaissance Festival that took place on January 14th in Hollywood.The AFR site has links to video coverage of the festival by Pajama Media and audio coverage by John Ziegler and some very nice photos of Gary taken at the event.
On January 13th, Gary was interviewed on Fox News’ Hannity and Colmes. In addition to serious comments about supporting the troops and Operation Iraqi Children, there was some good natured banter between Gary and the hosts. Here is a link to a partial transcript and video.
Gary Sinise To Attend American Film Renaissance-Hollywood
American Film Renaissance-Hollywood will present “An Afternoon With Gary Sinise,” on January 14th at 2:30 p.m. at the Mann’s Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood. The event will be hosted by KFI radio talk show host John Ziegler.Gary will discuss his entertainment career, his visits to Iraq and with American troops, and Operation Iraqi Children, the charity he founded to bring school supplies to the impoverished children of Iraq.
Operation Iraqi Children gets AT&T $25,000 donation
The Chicago Tribune reports that Gary received a $25,000 grant from AT&T on Sunday. He accepted the grant on behalf of the OIC at a ceremony at Chicago’s Navy Pier.The donation will support the organization’s mission of bringing school supplies and other essentials to Iraqi children. Concerned citizens donate supplies, which are then delivered to the children by American soldiers.
More than 200,000 school kits and other items have been sent to Iraq through the program.
